
Mechanical Engineer I
Job description
At Matrix PDM Engineering we strive to recruit, hire and develop high caliber Engineering graduates for our team. New college graduates will be based in one of our engineering offices. After training and establishing knowledge in basic work processes specific to the Mechanical Department, an Engineer I may be required to spend extended periods on industrial construction project sites, supporting facilitating the interface between the jobsite and home office engineering staff.
Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer I is responsible for performing entry level design and analysis work as directed to support various engineering and construction projects.
Essential Functions
- Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”

- Acquires limited knowledge and develops basic skills.
- Applies prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks.
- Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience. This includes but not limited to:
- Equipment Specifications and Evaluations
- Piping Stress Analysis
- Vendor document review and coordination.
- Acquires and understanding of professional and ethical standards.
- Collects data and gathers information or documents.
- Performs standard computations or analysis.
- Observes construction activities.
- Assists the construction team with the interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
- Communicates and transfers engineering data to aid field staff and craft.
- Communicates and transfers field issues to engineering group to improve engineering deliverables for efficient fabrication, erection, installation and testing of pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping and equipment.
- Documents and assists in the resolution of technical issues that arise at the jobsite.
- Perform other related duties, as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Entry-level Engineer, no experience required. Previous internship experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, static and dynamic physics, strength and materials
- Working knowledge of equipment and piping systems is preferred
- Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
- Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
- Demonstrates good organizational skills and ability to follow directions.
- Demonstrates a proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft products PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are required. Outlook and Teams preferred.
- Travel Requirements include field positions at construction sites throughout North America for extended durations (short term to long term assignments).
- Overtime may be required, particularly when assigned to project locations.
- Physical Demands - Light physical effort required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and move about facility (including ladders and stairs).
