Job Description
Materials Engineering has a diverse array of career options. Interns may work with internal manufacturing, outside material and component suppliers, failure investigation, design engineers providing materials specifications and design data, or technology development. Our engineers work on a wide array of materials including most metal alloys, steel, Ni-based alloys, titanium, aluminum, magnesium and cobalt-based alloys, and non-metallic materials such as organic matrix composites and ceramic matrix composites. We are responsible for all specialty manufacturing and repair processes - casting, forging, many types of coatings, joining processes, non-destructive testing, and additive manufacturing. In short almost any materials challenge of interest is tackled by Materials Engineers in Rolls-Royce.
Responsibilities
Our interns will work with other materials engineers to apply materials engineering knowledge to a develop, manufacture and support in service advanced state-of-the-art gas turbine engines and will develop an understanding of materials and materials processing vital to these systems.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Execute materials engineering projects to support manufacturing, design, or service, including project planning and management, experimentation, modeling, and analysis
- Analyze results and publish reports detailing procedure and conclusions
- Make presentations on project status and milestones
- Work with engineering teams to execute larger projects
Job Requirements
What you’ll need:
We want to see great communication skills developed through well-rounded life experience – academically, socially and in any previous work situations. Technical abilities are obviously a must, so you’ll need to be a Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Engineering major with a focus in Materials.
Standing/Graduation Eligibility: Attending an accredited college/university working towards a bachelor’s degree or higher
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Preferred qualifications (but not required): We would like to see our candidates have laboratory course experience for this internship
