
AI Engineer (Hybrid)
Job description
This individual will be accountable for the design, development and deployment of AI software products that meet evolving Alkermes business needs and improve business processes. They will collaborate closely with data scientists, architects, data engineers, and other experts and business stakeholders to ensure successful deployment and support of their work in production environments. The successful candidate will have a deep working knowledge of generative AI models, strong programming skills and experience with cloud computing platforms. Â
This position is located in our Waltham location and will work a weekly hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
- Collaboratively develop software solutions across data ingestion, processing, integration, preparation, user interface, and support
- Engineer programmatic data pipelines and custom applications using tools such as Python, SQL, KNIME, Snowflake, Informatica, Tableau, Git, React.JS, DBT, and others
- Utilize strong business analyst skills to effectively obtain user requirements to drive projects forward
- Follow agile methodology, SDLC and relevant SOPs to ensure successful delivery of IT Innovation initiatives and in meeting business, security, and regulatory requirements
- Create and distribute documentation as needed - Functional requirements, Business Requirements, Architecture Diagrams, Use Cases, End-to-End testing documents, Data Flow Diagrams, Milestones, delivery plans, and others
- Build and foster effective relationships between Business stakeholders and IT
- Oversee vendor relationships, manage license purchases/renewals and coordinate on advanced troubleshooting items
- Introduce best practice and process improvement ideas wherever appropriate
- Ensure adherence to FDA computer systems validation compliance, as required
- Manage system change controls via IT Change Management (e.g. ITIL) and/or GDP (e.g. SOPs, Change Controls)
- Ensure appropriate IT processes, procedures, and standards are in place
- Lead advanced support of key systems developed and deployed, conduct advanced troubleshooting as needed by coordinating and collaborating with internal and external technical specialists to achieve issue resolution
- Collaborate and share learnings with other parts of the organization and other Alkermes business units
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; post-graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience required with software development, preferably using AI systems, including generative models, deep learning and data analysis. Consulting experience is a plus.
- Proficient in AWS technologies such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Security Groups, IAM roles, permissionsExpert level programming in Python/Javascript, and familiarity with OOP principles and approaches
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles
- Basic knowledge of database management and SQL (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Working knowledge of CI/CD & DevOps processes and tools, experience with Gitlab is a plus
- Basic proficiency with Linux-based systems is preferred
- Basic understanding of network troubleshooting is preferred
- Delivery experience in the pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred
- Experience managing IT vendor relationships
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and subject matter experts
- Self-starter with ability to multitask – effectively manage simultaneous work requests across departments, IT, and other cross-functional organizations
- Ability to initiate, persuade, motivate, and influence project stakeholders and internal/external team members to desired and mutually-beneficial outcomes
- Ability to work a weekly hybrid office schedule in our Waltham location
