‍Job Summary

Dominion Energy Virginia’s Electric Transmission (ET) System Protection Engineering department is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the Company’s evolving grid. Primary responsibilities for this role include the design, modeling, and development of protective relay settings for up to 69kV equipment.

‍Job Responsibilities – Associate Engineer

Learn basic protection philosophy and applications to real-world scenarios.

Develop protective relay settings and perform circuit calculations for protection schemes inside the substation.

Provide technical assistance to engineering and field teams to develop the protection and control design package; and provide technical support to conceptual engineering, project management, and ET Field Organization teams throughout capital projects.

‍Job Responsibilities – Engineer

Associate Engineer duties above but distinguished from Engineer I by increased complexity in application of engineering skills required, review of protective relay settings, and provide advanced technical support.

Participate in company teams and industry-level organizations to enhance system protection performance, participate in trade and industry organizations, and other activities.

‍Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

‍Associate Engineer : 0-2+ years of engineering experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A an advanced degree can count as one year experience)

• Basic understanding of AC/DC fundamentals
• Basic understanding of the principles of transmission and/or distribution applications a plus
  
  

Engineer: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience or demonstrated equivalent (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A an advanced degree can count as one year experience)

• Solid understanding of AC/DC fundamentals
• Understanding of 3 phase power systems is a strong plus.
• Understanding of the principles of transmission and/or distribution applications is strongly preferred
  
  

Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals;

Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position;Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives;Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management;Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.);Planning, organizational and project management skills;

Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills;

Effective decision making skills;

Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;
