Job Purpose:
The Die Designer is responsible for die and associated component design work under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with machine shop & programming team.
- Design and detail components in die assemblies including all peripheral components
- Draft working drawings,, detail drawings and bills of materials (BOM) for equipment, subassemblies or product, using Pro/E
- Formalize and update drawing documentation and check for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
- Review project specifications to verify content and accuracy
- Work closely with the process engineering group to design acceptable flow path geometry and contours I die plates
- Produce Polymer extrusion die layouts for projects and sales proposals/ marketing
- Specify requirements for purchased equipment
- Attend design reviews, engineering meetings, and follow internal processes and procedures
- Meet job/ project deadlines as determined in conjunction with the Engineering Manager
- Provide timely support to sales, purchasing and manufacturing when required
- Perform engineering group tasks/ activities according to company & safety policies, standards and ISO procedures
Job Requirements:
- University Degree or Diploma in an Engineering Discipline
- Strong theoretical and practical background in mechanical design, machining, manufacturing practices, materials and material sourcing
- Understanding of the theory and practice of die design and construction within plastics industry preference will be given to demonstrate experience with multilayer blown film
- Working knowledge of coating used for polymer-wetted surfaces
- Proficient with 2D/ 3D modelling software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD experience preferred)
- Exposure to or experience with flow modeling analysis/ software (ideally compuplast, or equivalent)
- Occasional travel to customer locations worldwide to validate equipment designs and troubleshoot problems may be required
- Strong organizational acumen and communication skills – both verbal and written
- Excellent computer literacy (Microsoft office), previous experience with ERP systems (EPICOR) and/ or windchill a plus
- Motivated self starter able to work with minimal supervision and within a matrix reporting environment
