Georgia-Pacific Consumer Manufacturing Group is seeking an Electrical Automation Engineer role supporting the tissue and towel manufacturing operations at our Consumer Products Group Operation located in Zachary, LA.
The Electrical Automation Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our manufacturing and production processes. The ideal candidate will apply their expertise in electrical systems, automation controls, and troubleshooting to improve plant operations and drive sustainable innovation.
Our Team
The Port Hudson Plant is located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA. The Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern® and Brawny®. The Port Hudson facility uses integrated technology to manufacture tissue and paper towel products in a progressive production environment. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away and there is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What You Will Do
- Embrace influential leadership to support the organization while advancing our Principle-Based Management (PBM) culture
- Design, program, and implement automation systems to support manufacturing processes.
- Create and modify PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programs, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens, and SCADA systems
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical systems, including motors, drives, transformers, and control panels
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and codes
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction through automation and electrical improvements
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deploy Lean manufacturing practices
- Monitor and analyze system performance using diagnostic tools and data collection
- Provide detailed reports and recommendations to stakeholders
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to achieve plant performance goals
- Train and guide team members on automation best practices
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Proficiency in electrical systems
- In-depth knowledge of automation technologies, including PCL’s systems and /or robotics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve electrical and automation-related issues efficiently
- Experience with programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI/SCADA systems
- Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution and motor control systems
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and automation equipment
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and safety standards
- Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial or military operations environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and work collaboratively in a team environment
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a degree/certification with an electrical or mechanical technology focus
- Experience working with automation technology
- Experience in providing training and support of electrical control systems and automation equipment
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
