Job description

The Electrical Engineer - Level 1 supports electrical design, interconnection planning, and power system modeling for utility-scale solar and BESS projects. This role involves assisting in system layouts, electrical calculations, and technical documentation while ensuring compliance with NEC, IEEE, and regulatory standards. The Engineer – Level 1 will collaborate with senior engineers, procurement, and construction teams to develop efficient designs.

This position reports to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, or another management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate. This position reports to the Irvine, CA office but will maintain a hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the Irvine, CA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position is expected to travel up to 30% of the time.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical System Design & Analysis

  • Assist in developing single-line diagrams (SLDs), cable routing plans, and grounding layouts.
  • Perform basic electrical calculations, including voltage drop, conductor sizing, and fault current analysis.
  • Support transformer sizing, circuit protection, and load flow analysis.
  • Assist in PV system configurations, string sizing, and BESS system integration.

Technical & Engineering Support

  • Work with power system modeling tools (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower) to analyze system performance.
  • Assist in interconnection application processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Support SCADA system integration and protection relay coordination studies.

Project Coordination & Documentation

  • Prepare engineering reports, design drawings, and construction documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Assist in procurement evaluation for electrical equipment.

Regulatory Compliance & Standards

  • Gain familiarity with NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 1741, and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Support engineers in ensuring grid interconnection compliance.

Continuous Learning & Development

  • Stay updated on emerging PV and BESS technologies.
  • Participate in internal training and industry conferences.
  • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 0-2 years of experience in electrical engineering, power distribution, or interconnection planning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Basic understanding of PV systems and grid interconnection.
  • Software Skills:

o         AutoCAD (Basic proficiency).

o         SKM, ETAP, EasyPower (Basic proficiency).

  • Certifications: N/A

EXAMPLES OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day
  • Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk
  • Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far
  • Climb: occasionally ascends/descends on stairway to get to office upper and lower floors
  • Travel: up to 30% as needed
