
Electrical Systems Engineer I/II
Job description
The Integrated Power Systems Advanced Current Compensation team in (Department 489) supports new technology development for the electric drive propulsion control system. The core focus of this group is component integration, development, test, and delivery. Â The position of a systems engineer on this team would include tasks centered around topics such as:
Requirements generation
System identification and control system tuning
Digital signal processing and Real-time Software
Test data processing using spectral analysis tools
Review and disposition of vendor engineering products
Component testing and troubleshooting
Responsibilities: Candidates best suited for this position will possess a passion for learning, teamwork, and being taught in the principles of electrical control systems, current control, and electric drives while assisting in the management of suppliers to deliver requirement compliant components for validation and use in the ship test program. Below is a further breakdown of responsibilities for this role:
- Analyzing and interpreting simulation results via MATLAB and similar tools to generate analysis reports, calculation packages, and formal recommendation letters to our customers
- Validating test data and results following system test
- Developing and verifying system-level and component level requirements
- Integration of electrical and control systems in accordance with Military and Industrial standards and specifications for hardware and software
- Reviewing vendor technical analysis reports and Electric Boat generated reports, and review of component specifications and deliverables
- Travel to the vendor facilities in Middletown, RI for test witnessing, algorithm/software design reviews, and program reviews
- Travel to Philadelphia, PA to support full-scale testing of the electric drive control system
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- 0-3 years of experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
Preferred:
- Experience with MATLAB Simulink
- Classes in mechanical design of electric motors, vibrations, electric drives, digital controls, power electronics
- Design, analysis, or test of power electronic systems and electromagnetic machines
- Power system design including fault analysis and protection/coordination.
- Experience with management of suppliers to requirements
