
Embedded Software Engineer
Job description
General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
The Software Engineer will work in a small, agile company environment on the software running the next Electro-optical/Infrared (EOIR) satellite imagers for the United States Space Force. The Engineer will work closely with Software and Electrical Engineering teams on the embedded software team in Acton, MA.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Applies basic technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned routine engineering problems.
- Performs functional testing of equipment and systems by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
- Obtains and analyzes test data.
- Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions, and communicates results to project engineering staff.
- May be required to make technical presentations to project staff.
- May provide direction to design staff or technicians.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Performing software design, implementation, and unit test of software components for embedded systems.
- Performing hardware and software integration efforts
- Writing software to support automated verification of the software running on hardware
- Supporting hardware and software in developing tools for analysis

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

- Linux operating system experience with Linux programming desirable
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills with software and hardware
- Understanding of the principles of Electrical Engineering and digital circuits
- Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
- Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required
