Job description

Responsible to the assigned manager for performing engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Engineering and design work related to transmission line design including engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, project and construction management.
  • Prepare project construction documents including plan and profile drawings; design drawings; engineering, material and construction specifications; project schedules and bills of material.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and written to facilitate on schedule and on budget project performance.
  • Develop transmission line designs and cost estimates for proposed projects.
  • Work effectively with internal and external customers, government and regulatory agencies and contractors to secure permits, refine design alternatives and other liaison activities to bring project to completion.
  • Conduct bid and construction meetings as needed. Work with Project Management, Substation design, Distribution, Supply Chain and Right of Way as needed.


Culture, Leadership, and Organization:

  • Take opportunities for leadership roles in the Transmission Line Engineering organization such as Subject Matter Expert, Regional Compliance Lead, etc.
  • Initiate team building exercises and build the Energy Delivery work culture and lead safety initiatives.
  • Supervise and review work of outside engineering consultants as needed.
  • Provide leadership and training of personnel as requested.
  • Participate in the development of plans establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements relative to specific area of responsibility.

Technical Expertise:

  • Transmission line design experience in PLS-CADD is a plus.
  • Knowledge of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) and construction techniques are desired.
  • Prior experience in structural design, foundation design and/or surveying preferred. Competence with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Ability to become proficient in new software applications is required.
  • Ensure all work activities are performed safely according to plan and established schedules in accordance with policies, standards and rules of the company and in compliance with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.

What We’re Looking For:

Engineer Associate (Grade 05):

  • This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.


Engineer (Grade 06-07):

  • Has typically acquired two (2) - four (4) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*
  • Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at Grade 06 level.


*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Acceptable alternatives are:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

*ABET accredited program requirement may be waived at the discretion of VP or Executive level above based on relevant qualifications and experience.
