Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) is one of Lockheed Martin’s best-in-class Lines of Businesses that prioritizes partnership, integrity and reliability. Controls Engineering is an organization within FBM that facilitates control of the missile through servo actuators, gas hydraulic systems and small rocket motors.

We are a community of engineers looking for a dependable engineer to join our tight-knit group. The Mechanical Controls group is an organization within FBM that is responsible for the design and production support of the systems that control the missile both before and after boost. This position is for an Engineer in
Controls Engineering that both collaborates well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills. Additionally, in this role, you will have numerous opportunities to represent the
Controls team with our Navy partner and with LM leadership, with many opportunities for career development along the way.

As part of our team you will have the opportunity to manage the hardware components within the Post Boost Control System (PBCS) group. As a component Hardware Engineer, you will be empowered to develop technical solutions, work with our subcontract partners, and be the technical POC of propulsion hardware throughout different phases of the product life-cycle (development, qualification, production, service support, aging, etc.)

- Develop technical requirements and engineering documentation

- Lead investigations and development efforts

- Collaborate with subcontract management to provide technical support to hardware manufacturers.

- Contribute to new business trade studies

- Enhance cross discipline product development

- Participate in mentorship opportunities and professional development

- Be the technical interface to FBM management, systems engineering, quality, and our Navy counterparts.

Desired skills

Desired skills are additional skills that are nice to have and help narrow down a qualified candidate pool but not required to be considered.

- Missile and/or aerospace related education or experience
- Missile and/or space propulsion hardware experience
- Experience with space propulsion hardware development
- Experience with FBM processes and products
- Experience with aerospace manufacturing
- Experience in gas/fluid dynamics or energetics/propellants
- Experience as a propulsion hardware engineer
- Risk and opportunity experience with an understanding of continuous improvement concepts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership and initiative
- Experience in development activities, and working directly with senior management and customers

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
