Job description

Our Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Department focuses on municipal, IDOT, tollway and county roadway/streetscape lighting projects, as well as site/parking lot lighting, ITS, local event power, standby generators, potable water pump stations, stormwater pump stations, sewage lift stations, electric vehicle chargers, etc. Responsibilities and Scope of Work will include but not limited to:

  • Building and implementing functional computer-based models from scratch, both steady state and extended period simulations.
  • Evaluates existing system infrastructure and controls associated with water distribution systems and sanitary sewer collection systems to be represented within a computer-based model.
  • Participates in the appropriate data and calibration information gathering to apply to computer-based models.
  • Analyzing and exhibiting modeling results to assist in the direction of the proposed improvements.
  • Documents all design work progress in writing, drawings, sketches, calculations, or tabulations for the quality assurance reviews of work performed by other staff including completion of the department QA/QC process.
  • Evaluates existing site conditions, including topographic survey, and geotechnical field data collection.
  • Coordinates with utility companies for new services.
  • Performs required calculations for the accurate and complete design of project features.
  • Develops and/or back checks quantity and cost estimations for design project.
  • Assists in the preparation of permitting documents.
  • Utilizes value engineering, technical input, and contributions from others throughout design process.
  • Prepares design plans, specifications, and related documents for the development of engineering projects at the direction of their manager.
  • Undertakes research related to new methods or materials for use in projects.
  • Assists in the preparations of proposals for future work.
  • Assists in managing sub-consultants engaged in support of design projects.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Continually develops personal knowledge of engineering and construction best practices and standards by leveraging job experience.
  • May act as liaison with client, contractors, or others directly involved with the project, assisting with required coordination and problem solving between parties and site activities.
  • Assists in controlling project costs by managing the budget, invoicing, and reporting of projects, for both internal and client needs.
  • Contributes to team effort by providing guidance and technical insight to Mechanical Engineers.
  • Expands existing network by attending networking events and fostering new relationships that can contribute to potential talent identification and business development opportunities.
