
Opto-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer
Job description
In this Opto-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer role, you will play a key part in bridging optical design and manufacturing. You will work under an optical engineer to ensure our lens and camera module products are manufacturable and meet our company's rigorous quality standards.
Job Responsibilities
Design
- Design optical and mechanical components and assemblies
- Perform tolerance sensitivity analysis and yield optimization
- Complete mechanical drawing drafting based on product specifications
- Create fixtures for camera module assembly and manufacturing equipment
- Support FEA, athermalization, and stray light analyses
Camera / Lens Testing
- MTF (sharpness) and characterization of camera lenses
- Image quality testing including dynamic range, resolution, stray light, operating temperature
- Environmental reliability testing with our temperature chamber, thermal shock chamber, vibration table, IPx9 water jet, IP6X dust chamber, salt spray.
Manufacturing
- Run and debug a fully automated lens assembly machine
- Manage test equipment changeovers (MTF, etc) for the production department
- Set up semi-automated glue machines for camera module and lens assembly
- Support manufacturing process flow optimization
- Author process flow documentation and optimize production
The Position Qualifications are:
- B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical/Opto-Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong familiarity with CAD software such as Autodesk or Solidworks
- Knowledge of GD&T and strength in tolerancing
- Experience setting up and running equipment (laboratory, machine shop, and/or otherr)
- 0-3 of experience at a hardware or manufacturing company
- US Citizen or Authorized to work in the US without additional company sponsorship
Your Application will be stronger if you have any of the
- Taken a course or worked in opto-mechanics
- Worked in a manufacturing environment
- Worked in a machine shops
- Experience 3D printing
- Knowledge of MATLAB, Linux, and/or scripting.
- Created parts with prototyping companies such as Protolabs/Xometry/Oshcut
- Understanding of FEA
- Experience with FRED and/or Zemax/Code V
- Knowledge of MATLAB/Python data analysis
- Understanding of Statistical Process Control, Gage R&Rs, calibration
- Familiarity with optics concepts such as MTF, EFL, F#, etc..
Position Details
- Location: This position is based in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, CA. Our facility is in the light industrial area of Kearny Mesa, about 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego and 20 minutes from the beach.
- On-Site Requirement: This is not a remote or hybrid role – the expectation is work on-site 8 hours/day 5 days a week. This is required to collaborate with the team and work directly with hardware and equipment.
