Job description

Reliability Engineer for Semiconductor Devices

HyperLight is at forefront in commercialization of thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) integrated photonics - a material and process technology that is enabling high-performance, scalable optical components across AI/datacom infrastructure, hyperscale computing, quantum computing, sensing, and beyond. Founded in 2018 and backed by leading venture capital, we’ve built a team and a platform focused on real-world mass deployment of TFLN photonics technology.

At the core of our work is the TFLN Chiplet™ platform — a modular, integrated architecture designed for scalability, manufacturability, and seamless integration into complex systems. It offers a rare combination of extraordinary performance and industrial readiness, enabling system developers across applications to deploy the technology fast and ready. We partner with our customers and suppliers from conceptualization, design, and prototyping phases, all the way through mass production to ensure smooth and rapid deployment of TFLN photonic technology.

We believe our platform is the key, in the golden age of integrated photonics industry, to empower humanity to the next level. We assembled a world class team covering engineering, business and operations. We believe in the power of integrity, innovation, collaboration and pragmatic solutions. Our diverse team thrives on challenges and is united by a shared commitment to excellence. We take pride in tackling complex challenges with curiosity, humility, and a deep sense of care for one another.

We are seeking a Reliability Engineer for Semiconductor Devices to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of semiconductor and electro-optic devices, including photonic integrated circuits, to meet Telcordia GR-468 and JEDEC standards. The role involves building operating life prediction models and understanding customer needs and requirements.

Join us to make a real-world impact in a fast-paced, collaborative and high-growth environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute reliability and qualification test plans for optical devices, with a focus on photonic integrated circuits.
  • Ensure all test plans comply with industry standards, including Telcordia GR-468 and JEDEC
  • Perform accelerated life testing, build and validate operating life prediction models for optical and electro-optic devices.
  • Investigate product failures and work closely with cross-functional teams to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze test data to identify failure mechanisms and improve device reliability.
  • Understand and translate customer needs and requirements into reliability engineering solutions.
  • Timely Prepare and present reliability reports and documentation to stakeholders.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the reliability performance of products in the field.
  • Maintain and calibrate reliability test equipment to ensure accurate and reliable testing results.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of lab procedures and protocols.

HyperLight is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in reliability engineering for semiconductor and/or optical devices.
  • Strong knowledge of Telcordia GR-468 and JEDEC standards.
  • Experience in building and validating operating life prediction models.
  • Proficiency in reliability test methodologies and failure analysis techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to understand and meet customer needs and requirements.
  • Experience with design or testing of photonic integrated circuits is preferred.
  • Familiarity with advanced statistical analysis and reliability software tools, as well as knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in reliability engineering are a big plus.
Benefits
  • Competitive market-based compensation
  • Comprehensive health coverage, including medical, vision, and dental plans for individuals and families
  • 401(k) retirement plans with employee matching
