That's what we do every day.The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
This position provides software development support to the Command & Control Systems (C&C) directorate under the Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering and Test Contract (COMET) at NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The C&C organization is responsible for the design, development, sustaining, testing, and operations of the Control systems within the KSC Launch Control Center (LCC). Individuals will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for software design, implementation, testing, user support, maintenance, and operations of software systems in support of the KSC Launch Control Center (LCC).The employee will be a part of the Automated Test Software team working on the analysis, design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software in support of the Launch Control System.
The team is expected to work closely with other software developers, testers, analysts, architects, and engineers to exceed customer expectations.
The team works within a flexible hybrid remote work environment with two days remote and three days on site.
Responsibilities
‍Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Perform software development of respective system following design, coding standards and documented promotion and configuration management processes.
- Perform technical reviews of code, test, and design.
- Adhere to software plans, procedures, processes, and standards.
- Create and run test procedures to evaluate the performance of system software.
- Document test results and associated issues.
- Training and work assignments to prepare for software engineering within the rest of the C&C organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
‍Qualifications - External
‍Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution.

- Possess strong initiative, teamwork, problem solving, and customer engagement skills.
- Familiarity and experience with Python
- Familiarity and experience with Java
- Experience with Software Development Fundamentals and Software Development Processes.
- Requires close communication and collaboration with end users, customers, and other members of the team.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (MS Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and internet browsers.
- To be successful, the candidate shall have the ability to work towards deadlines and deliver quality products on their assignments.
- Ability to work independently and on teams.
- Evaluate all safety critical software for both its safety as an independent component, and for how it contributes to the overall system safety for project, program, or facility.
The following skills are strongly desired:
- Robot Framework
- PyCharm
- Working with a Linux environment and processes.
- Understanding of network organization and execution of remote programs and procedure
- Utilizing APIs
‍Essential Functions Physical Requirements‍
- Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.
- Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.
‍Work Environment‍
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
‍Equipment and Machines‍
- Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.
- Variety of equipment used in testing and manufacturing.
‍Attendance‍
- Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule
‍Other Essential Functions‍
- If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.
- Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
- Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
- Government security clearance may be required in the future.
- Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must pass a federal background investigation.
- Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
