Software Engineer Intern

ABOUT US:

Repool is a fintech software company that is modernizing infrastructure for hedge funds. US hedge funds account for $3.5T of assets but rely upon antiquated services and technology from fractured service providers, and there's an enormous opportunity to challenge longstanding incumbents and gain significant market share.

Founded in 2021, Repool is a YC S21 alumnus with over $6.5M in funding from top firms like Canaan, Matrix, and Uncorrelated, as well as angel investors including founders from unicorns like Brex, Jeeves, Mercury, Flexport, Outschool, Pilot, and Forge.

The team currently has 9 employees, primarily in NYC and the Bay Area.

THE ROLE:

We're hiring for a product-oriented, full-stack engineering intern to join the team (currently 4 engineers).

You must be enrolled in a 4 year CS program and be a rising senior to apply for this role.

You'll own large portions of product and help to build out a dream team of engineers and culture. Our ideal candidate is thoughtful and product-drive; someone who wants to ship a lot of features, gain exposure to many areas of the business, and meaningfully impact the direction of the product.

This is a primarily in-person role and we expect the candidate to work out of our Bay Area (Oakland) office 3 days out of the week.

WHAT YOU'LL DO HERE

• Ship exceptional, thoughtful features and code
• Collaborate with the engineering team on product features

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Great communication and collaboration skills
• A desire to be a part of and help build out great culture as the team grows
• Experience with one or more common web application frameworks (Phoenix, Rails, Django, etc.)
• Experience with at least one relational database system

NICE TO HAVES:

• Prior internship experience
• Passions outside of work!
• Experience with React, GraphQL, and Elixir/Phoenix
• Previous startup experience
• Previous finance experience
• A passion for investing, creator economies, and/or finance

WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO US:

• Leaning in. Startups aren't where you go to make the absolute most money, have the best work-life balance, or the easiest role. That's not for everyone, but the worst situation is people who join startups wanting only the "upsides" and not the "downsides.". You should know that building a startup is hard, and while we aim to have work-life balance, this just isn't a 9-5 job, and it's also not a role where you can coast. Great companies that become unicorns universally have incredible early employees who leaned in and helped build the company. That said, we also believe in reasonable expectations.

Between the two of us, we've been at companies with great culture, okay culture, and bad culture, and while there's no one way to have an amazing culture, there are many ways to have bad cultures. Repool is building modern hedge fund infrastructure. We make it extremely easy and fast to launch and operate hedge funds, like Carta/Angellist for hedge funds.

We're attacking the legacy fund services space, which is a multi-dozen-billion dollar industry, yet comprised almost entirely by antiquated, manual-workflow heavy incumbents with human-capital intensive workflow. Justin was a senior and early engineer at Brex, where he was known for being an exceptional project manager and particularly strong at solving complex regulatory challenges via engineering. Kevin was the Head of Revenue and employee #4 at Vitally, where he lead the team to a Series A from a16z.
