About Me
I am Sumukhi Gupta, a rising senior pursuing a B.S. in Cybersecurity at Purdue University, currently living in San Jose, CA. My interest in this field was sparked in high school, where I took a cybersecurity class and participated in the CyberPatriot competition. This experience allowed me to get hands-on experience with Windows, Ubuntu, and Linux, and introduced me to detecting and patching vulnerabilities, assessing network configurations, and ensuring key security policies were implemented. At Purdue, I’ve grown particularly passionate about blue team operations. I’ve applied knowledge gained through lectures through detailed lab work and Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions hosted by Purdue’s cybersecurity clubs. Last summer, I interned with the CyberSecOps Team at Nutanix, where I worked with AWS, FleetDM, and Osquery to manage security data and uncover actionable insights. I also helped centralize and scale Osquery deployments across systems. As an active member of the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) organization, I’ve received scholarships to participate in programs such as the Google Cybersecurity Certificate, the WiCyS Security Training Program (multi-staged program with CTFs, assessments, and certificates), and Cyber Defense Challenge. To strengthen my technical foundation, I also joined Hack the Future, where I’ve contributed to backend development for nonprofit projects, building secure, cost-effective solutions to manage and retrieve data, automate communications, and streamline admin tasks. I enjoy Cybersecurity because it is very hands-on and ever-evolving. As an individual, I’m very observant and detail-oriented, valuing communication and organization, which I believe to be key in security-focused work. I’m currently interested in exploring how blue team practices—particularly incident response and threat detection—can be enhanced using AI to help defend against sophisticated cyber threats.
